Your Hosts Steve and Penny welcome you to the Thornton Lodge Motel.

Relax in one of our 16 spacious ground floor units, 5 of which were built in March 2020.  All our units have heat pumps/air conditioning.

All doors and windows that don't face the swimming pool have been double glazed with hush glass.

Our new king studio units have double glazing and are located at the rear of the complex.

Enjoy our FREE unlimited high speed WIFI - a must for the traveller today.

In Summer relax by our large salt water swimming pool with your favorite drink or enjoy a barbeque outside of your unit. soak up the amazing CHB sun.

All our units have Smart TVs - you can access your own Netflix account and come with Freeview and five Sky TV channels including Sport 1 & Sport 2.

Thornton Lodge Motel is a short 10 minute walk to Waipukurau CBD.  A great central stop off between Gisborne and Wellington.

Central Hawkes Bay/Waipukurau

Is the Southern Gateway to the Hawkes Bay Region and is the first stop for visitors from Wellington, Wairarapa and Manawatu.  Central Hawkes Bay stretches from the mountain slopes of the Ruahine Ranges in the west to the sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean in the East.  It offers plenty of options for getting off the beaten track to explore the area in your own time, with walking, cycling and back country fishing just some of the possibilities.

  • Experience 5 beautiful Country Golf courses and you can base yourself here at Thornton Lodge.
  • The Limestone Loop - a driving route to discover the best of Central Hawkes Bay - Art, Food, Wine, Shops, Historical Homesteads.
  • Cycle, walk or run along the stopbank cycleway along eitherside of the Tuki Tuki River.  Mountain bike tracks under the trees for the more adventourous!
  • We have renowned trout fishing rivers in this area, with good vehicle access and parking.
  • A pleasant drive from Thornton Lodge Motel Waipukurau, brings you to some of the best beaches in the area.
  • Visit the longest place name in New Zealand (near Porangahau)  "Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu"
  • For trampers, there are fantastic bush tracks and huts in which to overnight in the Ruahine Ranges.
  • Our neighbour the Waipukurau Aerodrome is where you can learn to fly or guide in optimal conditions, or take a ride in a tigermoth.
  • Waipawa is only a short drive north, where you can check out the Early Settlers Museum.
